Le réel comme consensus entre nos représentations phénoménales
Le monde ne nous est accessible que par les phénomènes des éléments qui le constituent. Nous n'avons aucun accès caractère consensuel de la notion de réalité au-delà de notre expérience sensible. C'est ce qu’Emmanuel Kant désigne par "la nature même des objets" plus couramment nommée"chose en soi". Pourtant même si nos sens ne les perçoivent pas, nous savons désormais que certaines choses existent sans que nous puissions les saisir. L'entièreté du spectre électromagnétique demeure par exemple hors de portée de notre perception.
Cette série de peintures explore une manière de mettre en scène le concept de chose en soi, qui définit pourtant quelque chose qui ne peut être appréhendé par la conscience humaine. S'est greffée à cette intention initiale une réflexion sur la nature solitaire de notre conscience et sur le caractère consensuel de la notion de réalité.
En pratique sur la toile, la vision subjective des personnages est circonscrite à leur silhouette et leur environnement apparaît telle une ombre en noir et blanc. Ces compositions visuelles multiplient donc les points de vue sur une même scène. Ce processus est en quelque sorte une nouvelle façon d'envisager les questions soulevées par les avant-gardes du début du vingtième siècle.

Reality as Consensus Between Our Phenomenal Representations
The world is accessible to us only through the phenomena of its constituent elements. We have no direct access to reality beyond our sensory experience. This is what Immanuel Kant refers to as “the nature of things themselves,” more commonly called the thing-in-itself. Yet, even if our senses do not perceive them, we now know that certain things exist beyond our grasp. The entire electromagnetic spectrum, for example, remains outside the reach of human perception.
This series of paintings explores ways to stage the concept of the thing-in-itself, which by definition cannot be apprehended by human consciousness. To this initial intention is added a reflection on the solitary nature of our consciousness and the consensual character of the notion of reality.
On canvas, the subjective vision of each figure is confined to its silhouette, while the surrounding environment appears as a black-and-white shadow. These visual compositions multiply perspectives on a single scene. This process can be seen as a contemporary approach to questions raised by early twentieth-century avant-garde movements.
